The official dig at Pheasant Wood began on the 26th May 2008, with worldwide media attention. This was a huge national and international news story, with coverage on all network news stations, all state and national papers as well as The 7.30 Report, 60 Minutes, Today and A Current Affair. Confirmation that this was in fact the WWI grave site of hundreds of Australians came in the third week of the dig. Many issues remain including: possible identification; will DNA testing be used; will the remains be exhumed or should the site become a memorial; are there British soldiers also buried in the pits; and who will take responsibility for these decisions. More major news coverage is guaranteed as all these issues are debated. Patrick Lindsay travelled to Pheasant Wood to cover the dig and recovery of the missing Diggers. His experiences and the results of the dig will make up a new chapter in this edition of Fromelles.
