He joined the British Army as a teenager, fought in the American War of Independence, and was elected to the Irish Parliament in 1783 but his beliefs were at odds with the establishment. As Lord Edward, he returned to North America and spent time with the Iroquois. Back in Europe, he visited revolutionary France, plotted Irish independence from Britain. During the rebellion he was captured and died of wounds.
